Session 14:Movie on the Block

Neighborhood Sessions: Movie on the Block

Movie on the Block was an open-air film screening designed to bring the community together through the magic of classic Black cinema. As the sun set over the city, a community rooftop was transformed into an open-air theater, where familiar faces became friends and neighbors became humanized.

This event reignited the close-knit spirit of community, reminding attendees that joy, laughter, and storytelling have the power to bring people together. Against the sweeping backdrop of the city skyline, a space was created where everyone felt seen, valued, and part of something bigger—a true reflection of what it means to belong.

In honor of the intimacy and authenticity of the moment, Movie on the Block was a private, no-cameras screening—a rare and intentional space where people were fully present, unbothered by the pressures of social media, and free to simply enjoy the experience together beneath the open sky. What happened on the rooftop, stayed on the rooftop—and that made it all the more special.
