session 10: amapiano dance class

An Amapiano Experience brought the vibrant rhythms and rich culture of Amapiano to the NYC metropolitan area in a one-of-a-kind dance class led by Nigerian-American dancer and choreographer Osamudiamen "Mudia." As the founder of Yano Disciples, Mudia guided participants through the foundational styles of Amapiano—including Spantsula, Sbhujwa, and Bacardi—movements he honed through intensive training with top South African dancers overseas, bringing an authenticity rarely found in New York City.

More than just a dance class, this experience was an invitation to step outside of comfort zones, try something new, and push personal boundaries in a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment. Participants didn't just learn steps—they connected with one another through rhythm, shared laughter, and the collective energy of movement, creating memories and stories uniquely their own.

Through music, culture, and community, this event proved that dance has the power to bring people together, break down walls, and offer a deeply personal experience that attendees could carry with them long after the music stopped.
